Parent Aware Pathways is a three-year program of the Northland Foundation intended to help increase the number of Parent Aware-rated child care providers who are serving families in the region. This initiative offers information, incentives, technical assistance, coaching, and peer learning group participation to licensed center-based or family child care providers. Funding originally limited this initiative to providers in St. Louis and Carlton Counties. However, starting in August 2014, the program expanded its reach to include Aitkin, Cook, Koochiching, and Lake Counties.
Minnesota’s Parent Aware system involves quality ratings that range from one to four stars. The training and review that providers undergo to earn a rating helps them to enhance their skills; helps them assure that their program aligns with early care and education benchmarks; offers a marketing tool to attract parents; and, with a star rating, enables them to accept families receiving child care scholarship dollars through the State of Minnesota. initiative include the following.
The Pathways initiative involves a close partnership with Child Care Aware and funding support from the Mardag Foundation, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation, the Sheltering Arms Foundation, and Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation.
