The Foundation’s Board of Trustees and staff reviews inquiries and requests on a monthly basis. These must be submitted by the 15th of each month for review by the board and staff during the next cycle. For grants over $5,000, there is a review of the initial inquiry, and applicants are notified by email if a full proposal is requested. On average, consideration of a full proposal takes 60 to 90 days. Small grant requests are considered within 30 days.
The Northland Foundation uses a web-based portal for organizations to both apply for funding and to submit grant reports. Applicants’ first step is to take an eligibility quiz to determine if the intended request is a good fit with Northland’s funding interests. If the potential request is eligible, the organization can complete one of two applications which differ based on the amount of the request.
To enter the portal and initiate a new grant request totaling $5,000 or less, organizations can apply using our small grant application. To enter the portal and begin the process of a new grant request of more than $5,000 organizations are required to submit an initial inquiry. The inquiry helps determine if a program fits within the Foundation’s grantmaking areas of interest.
