Planned Giving

Making a gift to the Northland Foundation and its work within the region is an important and personal decision. There are a variety of options. You may choose to give a gift of cash now, or you may arrange a future gift. You might wish to support the Foundation’s overall mission or a specific program area. We recommend that you consult your attorney or financial planning professional for guidance.

Options for Giving

Wills and Bequests*
A bequest in your will allows you to defer a gift until after your lifetime and is also exempt from estate taxes. It may be a specific amount or a percentage, or share, of your total assets.

Retirement Assets
IRAs or other retirement benefit plans are the most highly taxed assets. If you name the Northland Foundation as the beneficiary of the remainder of your retirement assets after your lifetime, your gift is not subject to income and estate taxes.

Gifts of Securities
A gift of long-term appreciated stock or other securities offers an immediate income tax charitable deduction for full fair market value when you itemize, and you avoid tax on capital gains.

Gifts of Cash
A gift of cash is quick and simple. You only need to write a check made out to Northland Foundation. If provides an immediate income tax charitable deduction when you itemize, and you can experience the satisfaction of seeing your gift in action during your lifetime.

* If you wish to include a general bequest in your will, one of the following is suggested:

“I hereby give to Northland Foundation ___ percent (___%) of my residuary estate to be used for the charitable purposes of the Northland Foundation.”

“I hereby give to Northland Foundation ___ dollars ($___ ) to be used for the charitable purposes of the Northland Foundation.”
