Lisa Nelson, Senior Manager of Public Affairs with Walmart, presented the check during a Twin Ports Youth Leadership Academy training session in November. More than 50 ninth grade students from Duluth and Superior participating in this year’s Academy were on hand to share their appreciation.
Ms. Nelson also shared some sound advice with the young people, asking them to take their learning opportunities to heart and become active leaders in their communities.
The donation includes $25,000 each from Walmart’s Wisconsin and Minnesota statewide corporate giving programs. Northland will apply the money to KIDS PLUS programs that serve northeastern Minnesota and Superior/Douglas County, Wisconsin.
“The Northland Foundation is thrilled to have this partnership with the Walmart Foundation.” stated Lynn Haglin, Vice President/KIDS PLUS Director. “These resources will make a great impact on our work helping young people gain lifelong leadership, job skills, and passion for community service.”
