KIDS PLUS Youth In Philanthropy Grant Awards
Spring 2010

In partnership with the Minnesota Power Foundation, the following grants were awarded to support youth-developed projects in northeastern Minnesota by the young people and adult mentors serving on the KIDS PLUS Youth In Philanthropy Board.

Babbitt-Embarrass School - ISD #2142, Babbitt: $806
To provide supplies that will allow high school students to mentor elementary students while trying to create the most efficient wind turbine.

Men As Peacemakers, Duluth: $500
To support activities that will guide young participants while planning their future in higher education.

Cook School - ISD #2142, Cook: $1,000
To support students from Cook, Babbitt, Tower, and Orr in an all-school event that will help with the transition into a combined school.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland, Duluth: $600
To promote physical fitness with the use of modern technology for youth ages 12-18.

Mesabi East Schools - ISD #2011, Aurora: $150
To provide materials for an outdoor clean-up of public areas in Aurora, Hoyt Lakes, and Biwabik.

Neighborhood Youth Services, Duluth: $600
To offer a yearlong cultural celebration series with food and activities.

Greenway High School - ISD #316, Coleraine: $940
To create a group for students and community members to promote positive role model attributes through special events.

Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, Duluth: $900
To provide an opportunity where teens can share their talents and learn about community resources while supporting other local youth programs.

Northwood Children's Services, Duluth : $976
To provide an opportunity for students to plant, grow, and harvest vegetables and berries.

Generation W Youth Newspaper, Virginia: $1,000
To expand a youth run business that will allow for more youth to get involved.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland, Duluth: $500
To create an interactive way for youth ages 6-12 to learn new skills as well as internet safety.
