The Grant Program provides financial and technical resources to nonprofits located in Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties. Support is directed toward three areas of interest to help individuals, families, and communities throughout the region to grow and prosper. Priority areas are: Connecting Kids and Communities/Strengthening Families, Opportunities for Self-Reliance, and Aging with Independence.

Bringing generations together plays a crucial role in a Bois Forte youth education and prevention program.
A program that links the past to the present is creating a brighter future for young members of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.
With the help of a Northland Foundation grant, the reservation launched a Multi-Generational Sharing Program rooted in native values and philosophy. Its goal is to reduce substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, teen pregnancy, and other issues that affect a disproportionate number of American Indian youth.
By enhancing family ties, connecting children with Elders, and passing down Anishinabe (Objibwe) traditions, this unique program gives young Band members a positive cultural identity and a strong support system at home and in their community.
